I purchased the Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Mazatapec from my trusted source TruffleMagic.com. My first attempt to grow shrooms went really well a few weeks ago, everything is documented in my grow journal which you can find here.
Before we go into more details, a quick remark regarding the ordering and shipping process since there have been many questions around timelines recently. This was my third purchase and it took about 5 weeks total from the point I submitted the order until the goods arrived here. This is consistent with the information provided on the vendors website.
I strongly recommend that you also read the Magic Mushrooms Grow Kit instructions, which are very easy to understand and follow along.
It will literally only take a minute to get the Mazatapec shroom grow kit started.
- Take all the components out of the box
- Remove the lid from the grow kit – rinse the lid with tap water and put it aside (do NOT throw it away, you will need it later)
- Put the kit into the plastic bag
- Wrap the bag tightly around the kit
- Place the kit in a dark room and wait for 7 days
After seven days, it is time time start the next phase. And again, this is very easily accomplished – all you got to do is open the bag and carefully spray the inside of the bag. To the extent that you can, avoid having water drop directly onto the kit. The goal is to create humidity inside the bag, not to ‘water’ the mycelium. Then, simply fold over the top of the bag and put the paper clips on, just as shown in the images below. As you can see, I use a heat mat with a thermostat which allows me to keep the temperature at the desired level of 23 degrees Celsius.
The shrooms have grown considerably within the past couple of days. At first, they seemed to be off to a bit of a slow start, but don’t be fooled – you go to bed one night and when you wake up the next morning, it’s hard to believe how much a mushroom can grow overnight.
Here is a quick video photo journal I put together as I worked with the Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Mazatapec:
For purposes of taking the pictures below, I carefully removed the Mazatapec kit from the misted plastic bag. I took the opportunity and drained all of the excess water that had collected at the bottom of the bag. As you can see, these shrooms are getting close to harvest. I wonder if the veil will drop later tonight. But for now, I put the kit bag into the bag and onto the heat mat.
Oh my, I woke up this morning to this amazing sight below. The Mazatapec (psilocybe cubensis mazatapec) shrooms grew even more and the veil dropped on some of them. It’s definitely time to pull them!
I carefully plucked all the shrooms from the mycelium with a slow twist-and-pull motion. You cannot rush this process, you definitely want to make sure that you pull out the part of the mushroom that is below substrate surface. Because first of all, that is good material that you don’t want to miss out on and secondly, you do not want those remnants to just sit there and rot. After all, we want to use this very same grow kit again a couple more times to run a few more flushes.
Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Mazatapec Video Journal
Speaking of flushing, right after I had removed all the shrooms, I filled the grow kit with tap water and placed the original lid back onto the kit. I put everything into a dark room where it will remain for 12 hours.
Below are some pictures I took this morning capturing the yield of the first flush. These Mazatapec magic mushrooms look amazing and I – of course – tried a couple of smaller ones just to get an idea around the taste. Yummy, I just like it, but I like mushrooms in general – that said, not everybody shares my opinion. Anyway, these shrooms are eye candy to me and after I weighed them, I put them back onto a paper towel where they will now dry for 12-24 hours before I will put them into a drying-box to finish up the process – ultimately I want them cracker-dry.
Here is a summary of what I just described:
- Take your Magic Mushroom Mazatapec Grow Kit out of the plastic bag. But the bag aside, you will need it later!
- Carefully and without rushing, remove all the shrooms from the mycelium via a slow pull-and-twist motion.
- Place all the harvested shrooms onto a paper-towel in a dark room; if you want to dry your them for storage or to put them into capsules, you need to make sure they dry up completely. This will take several days!
- To initiate the next flush, remove all visible growth from the mycelium to prevent rot. Then fill the kit again with fresh tap water and place the original lid onto the kit.
- Put the kit in a dark room for 12 hours.
Okay, the shrooms were drying away in the dark on a paper towel for 36 hours (I think the text-book recommendation is to let fresh shrooms dry for 12-24 hours, but oh well…). I then went on and cut off the caps and halved the stems – this should help accelerating the drying process.
This is a good opportunity to try out the Mushroom Drying Boxes I purchased at Midwest Growing Supplies a few weeks ago. They come with a desiccant and you simply put your cleaned, pre-dried shrooms onto the screen (comes with the purchase) and put the lid on the box. Now, I have no idea how long it will take for them to become completely and ready for the grinder. We shall see. Below a few pics I took today:
I don’t know if the drying containers with the desiccant is the best approach here. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, but these shrooms don’t look or feel as if they were drying at all! It’s quite possible that there are just too many pieces of shrooms or maybe they need to be pre-dried longer, but anyway, I took all of them out and placed them back onto a paper-towel with a fan slowly moving the air right above the shrooms. I’m almost confident that this will work much better.
Indeed, the once I took the shrooms out of the kit and put them back on a papertowel for a few more days, they dried up perfectly. I also initiated a second flush with this kit which yielded another 30 gram:
Okay, that’s it. You can obviously initiate as many flushes as you like. With my recent kit I got a total of 3 decent flushes.
Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Mazatapec – Summary:
Sorry, if I cannot go into detail around the effects of these shrooms. I am not really interested in ‘tripping’. The goal for me is microdosing and over course of time, find a therapeutic dose.
The Magic Mushroom Grow Kit Mazatapec by Trufflemagic worked incredibly well and even a beginner like myself had no issues growing these amazing medicinal mushrooms. Keep in mind, I’m still very new to this and it takes a bit of practice. However, this kit was yet another excellent introduction to the world of magic mushrooms. I you just follow the simple instructions provided on the trufflemagic.com website, it’s virtual impossible to screw this up. This worked like a charm and I can’t wait to start my next medicinal mushroom growing adventure which will be the B+ strain which is on its way here. Trufflemagic has so far provided an excellent service all throughout. I can only highly recommend that you check them out!
